Hey Rube! Riot on the Great Plains
August 22 &
23, 2009
This is a premier performance of a play written by the granddaughter of a local Loup
Citian, who is a graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts of New York University.
The play is based on the Loup City riot of June 14, 1934, when elements of the
Farm Holiday movement clashed with the town sheriff's deputies and local citizens over
attempts to improve the working conditions at the Ravenna Creamery in Loup City. The
historical drama is about the depression era struggles of the working class and concerns
of the local people toward outsiders trying to bring about change. The play
will be the first in a series of annual historical plays presented by the Loup City
Theatrical Association.
